Sidmouth Advanced Players Endure Mixed Fortunes

Sidmouth Herald published 7 August 2014

Sidmouth’s team in the Southwest League for Advanced Play has had mixed fortunes over their first five matches, beating Budleigh twice and Bristol B once, but losing both home and away to Taunton, writes Richard Wood.

Sidmouth’s division is always closely contested, and this year three of the five matches have been decided by games that went to that closest of results, plus one on time.

Such has been the improvement in play at the club over recent years that manager Richard Wood now has a good pool of able B class players to choose from and has been able to employ some squad rotation.

All members of the squad, Derek Andrew, David Clarke, Roger Hendy, Peter Nelson, Mike Taylor, David Temple and Richard Wood, have contributed important wins and this bodes well for the future.

Sidmouth’s final match is the return encounter at Bristol next Tuesday (August 12) and they need to win to retain an outside chance of reaching the promotion play-off.

Nearly every type of weather extreme has been endured over the matches so far; cold, heat, wind, flood and hail, so the team are preparing for some August snow to complete the set!
